What makes Exemplar Nutrition Coaching different from other nutrition services?

​Food is so much more than fuel. Other health coaches take a paint-by-the-numbers approach that focuses on metric-based performance goals or designing the perfect morning routine.  My focus is on retraining our palates to prefer a wide-range of flavors and textures to ensure we're eating a diverse diet thereby lessening the need to rely on expensive supplements to fill nutrient gaps.

Do I need to follow a specific diet or eliminate certain foods?

No. Anthropology shows us that humans can survive eating all different kinds of foods. There is no universal diet. You will not have to follow a specific diet, eliminate entire food groups, or adhere to strict rules. The focus is on improving eating habits and food quality in a way that’s flexible, realistic, and sustainable over time—including holidays, celebrations, and everyday life. 

Is this only for weight loss?

Weight-loss is often the gateway to better health. For most people, improvements in weight follow naturally when habits and food quality improve. Our focus will be on building a health-promoting environment, not a number on a scale.

Who do you work with? 

​ My clients aren’t looking to set personal records in the gym, but want to be able to get on the floor and roughhouse with their kids. They are busy people not trying to rigorously “optimize” another aspect of their lives, but looking for ways to eat better. They may be overwhelmed by the sheer abundance of nutrition advice on the Internet and need help sorting the wheat from the chaff. They want to look and feel good for a first date, and impress with their home cooking skills.

Will meal plans be provided?

Typically, no, although there will be plenty of recipes and examples. The goal isn't to have you follow a set meal plan, but to build the skills necessary to make meal planning less of a hassle and more enjoyable.

Do I need to cook a lot or be good in the kitchen?

No prior cooking experience is required. Cooking skills will be built gradually and practically. There are many useful kitchen tools that enable you to make more of your food at home, saving time and money.  

How are sessions conducted?

All sessions can be conducted remotely or over the phone. For those who prefer face-to-face interactions, and you are local to southern Maine, in-person meetings can be arranged.

Is this medical nutrition therapy?

No. Exemplar Nutrition Coaching provides education, guidance, and coaching around eating habits and food quality. It does not diagnose or treat medical conditions and does not replace care from a licensed medical professional.

Do you work with women?

Of course, women are always welcome. If my approach and message resonates with you, please give me a call and we'll get to work.
